SAAMFT December Luncheon
WHEN:
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7 AT 11:00 AM
WHERE:
MAGGIANO'S LITTLE ITALY 17603 IH 10W SAN ANTONIO, TX 78257
Presentation:
Systemic Sex Therapy.
Whether the system is a couple or a family, the cultural norm of relegating sexuality to silence or shame undermines a clinician's ability to fully understand the system. The silence and/or shame is often driven by variables such as religion, race, socioeconomic status, and sometimes immigration experience. Even if the focus of treatment is not a sexual issue, assessing how sexuality is conceptualized in a given system completes the clinician's evaluation of the case. The PLISSIT model is one intervention modality used for understanding variables in a given system, including sexuality.
Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1) understand one model of how sexuality is viewed in our culture.
2) identify how systems theory is used in sex therapy using a case example.
3) understand how to use the PLISSIT (Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, Intensive Therapy) model of approaching sexual issue
